How graphic designers rely on intuition as an ephemeral facility to support their creative design process

Graphic design is a specialized form of creative practice in which images, typography, texts, shapes and other visual elements are created, selected, developed integrated to coherent whole that conveys an intended message user experience. Anecdotal evidence suggests intuition critical this practice, but exactly how graphic designers rely on their support process poorly understood. Using cultural probes semi-structured interviews, qualitative study evidences twelve professional relied as what we will call ephemeral facility. Intuition was discerned feeling briefly enters into consciousness reinforces ongoing, nonconscious decision making, or causes shift toward conscious reasoning strategies. The reports the applied throughout process––for obtaining selecting information from clients, filling informational gaps, envisioning starting point guiding subsequent actions evaluations necessary for developing design. This offers new empirically based insight role relevance progressing process, including social material interactions therein.
